Olivier Giroud has risked upsetting Arsenal fans by branding Chelsea the ‘the top club in England’.
Giroud spent six-years at Arsenal. Despite his struggles at times, the Gunners faithful sang his name continually and we have no doubt that he still has admirers at the Emirates.
It’s for that reason that the Giroud fans that remain in North London may be angered by his recent comments about arch-rivals Chelsea.
Giroud has been discussing his future with Chelsea during an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe, during which he branded us ‘the top club in England’.
The comments are translated by Standard Sport:
“For me, Chelsea is the top club in England, the one that has won the most titles over the last 10 years. I am where I wanted to be. So why leave?”
Giroud is right, we are the best club in England. Besides, what else is he supposed to say? Arsenal are part of his past now, he need not pussy-foot around in fear of upsetting Arsenal fans.
Giroud has made a blatant step-up in his career, and he ought to enjoy it while it lasts.
