Matt Law of the Telegraph has published some interesting information regarding Chelsea academy product Nathan Ake.
Ake’s talent was never in doubt. He’s one of very few to come out of our academy and establish themselves as part of our first-team squad. However, a bit-part role did not appear to be appealing for the Dutchman, who subsequently signed for Watford.
Just one-year on from Ake’s departure, the idea of Chelsea re-signing him has surfaced. According to the Telegraph, both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are keen on signing Ake, but Chelsea have the advantage in the race to sign him.
Whether or not we are interested is unclear, but if we are, there is a £40M buy-back clause that remains active. It was negotiated into the deal that took Ake to Watord, and essentially gives us a ‘first refusal’ ahead of any proposed sale.
