Chelsea fans on Twitter are furious that we have been denied a clear penalty against Southampton at St. Mary’s.
Following the use of VAR at the World Cup, you could be forgiven for expecting refereeing perfection, but the technology is not being used in the Premier League, and we’re suffering as a result of it.
As Eden Hazard slid the ball through to Olivier Giroud, who made a charge into the Southampton penalty area, the Frenchman had his legs taken out by a sliding challenge. Yet, no penalty was awarded.
Chelsea fans fume on Twitter as Olivier Giroud is denied clear penaltyAt the time of the incident, Chelsea were being held by the home side, so you can understand the frustration from the Blues faithful at the poor officiating.
As is often the case in modern football, nobody shied away from venting their fury on social media. Twitter erupted in anger, with the majority of it being directed towards the officials.
That was a penalty, never a corner. Referee bottled it.

Not sure what Chelsea have to go to get a penalty. Every single game a player is badly fouled in the box but the referee just ignores it.

Good possibilty of Chelsea getting a penalty if VAR had been in use #FSLive

Anyone else not surprised we didn’t get a penalty when Craig Pawson is the referee? Guy is a disaster. #SOUCHE
