Chelsea have been tentatively linked with Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek by the Dutch press.
Our interest is reported by Italian publication Calciomercato, who cite information from van de Beek’s home nation, claiming that Chelsea are sniffing around.
The 21-year-old has already established himself as a regular for Ajax. He’s also made four appearances for his country.
van de Beek scored 11 goals in 34 Eredivisie appearances from midfield last term. Though, those numbers were replicated and bettered by both Mason Mount and Marco van Ginkel.
The aforementioned report lists van de Beek as a potential replacement for Cesc Fabregas, though, we’re not convinced about the accuracy of that claim.
Fabregas is one of the most experienced members of the squad, having proved himself in the Premier League, La Liga and on the international stage.
van de Beek could reach that level in the future, but he’s some way off. If he’s signed, it seems likely that he’d be immedietely shipped out on loan.
