Emerson Palmieri made sure to inform Chelsea fans on Twitter that he is not injured, despite being left out of the matchday squad to face PAOK on Thursday evening.
Emerson is yet to play a minute for Chelsea this term. That would have come to a surprise to few after the opening five fixtures of the season were all in the Premier League. However, a Europa League clash with PAOK provided Maurizio Sarri with an opportunity to rest Marcos Alonso and given Emerson a chance to impress.
He opted against it. In fact, Emerson was not even among the substitutes. Ahead of the Cardiff City game at the weekend, Sky Sports reported that Sarri had informed the press Emerson was suffering with a fever and a sore throat.
That does not appear to be the reason behind Emerson’s omission, though. He posted the below tweet on Twitter on Thursday night, which is now deleted, but not before it was screenshotted and reposted by !

It would have been naive for Sarri to head into the season with just one natural left-back, but forcing Emerson to watch from the sidelines seems a little unfair. He’s 24-years-old, he needs to be playing football on a regular basis.
Perhaps it would be wise to allow him to leave on loan when the January transfer window comes around. Cesar Azpilicueta is capable of providing cover at left-back in Alonso’s absence, with Davide Zappacosta, who was involved last night, slotting in on the right.
