The time has finally come. We knew that it was going to happen. Chelsea will soon no longer be able to loan out an army of youngsters.
The club have used it as a strategy to balance the books since the introduction of Financial Fair Play. Sign players on the cheap, develop them out on loan, often receiving a fee in exchange, and ultimately sell them on for profit.
Some will say it’s unethical, but it’s effective. FIFA have now come to ruin our fun by limiting the number of players a club can have out on loan at one time.
That’s according to Sport Bild, who claim that the number will be shorted to just eight. EIGHT. BLOODY EIGHT. WE HAVE FORTY PLAYERS OUT ON LOAN AT THE MINUTE!
It’s not the end of the world. Chelsea will have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new strategy to make money in the market.
Perhaps, in the manner of Barcelona, the solution will be to sell players with cheap buy-back clauses. We did it with Thorgan Hazard, don’t be surprised to see it become the norm.
