Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has revealed his belief that Chelsea made a mistake allowing Tiemoue Bakayoko to leave the club this summer.
Bakayoko was signed from AS Monaco last year for a hefty fee, but failed to produce his best performance level during his debut season at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte showed a degree of faith in the Frenchman, but he’s not Maurizio Sarri’s cup of tea. His appointment essentially ended any hopes of Bakayoko sparking a revival as a Blue.
He was subsequently allowed to join AC Milan on loan in a deal which appears to have an option to buy next summer. Fabinho reckons Chelsea have made a mistake allowing that to happen.
The Brazilian, who played alongside Bakayoko in the heart of Monaco’s midfield, is quoted by the Metro saying:
“I don’t think he struggled that much. I watched a few games and he seemed always good to me.”
“Obviously, in your first season in a new club it’s always difficult and I wasn’t expecting him to leave, but AC Milan are getting a great player.”
We’re not sure which Chelsea games Fabinho tuned into last season, but for the most part Bakayoko was playing like he had his laces tied together.
As much as we’d love for Bakayoko to return from his loan at the San Siro stronger, we struggle to see it happening.
