Chelsea winger Willian has reaffirmed his commitment to the club by claiming that he’d happily stay at Stamford Bridge for five more years.
Willian was continually linked with the exit door over the summer. Whether it be to Barcelona or Manchester United, the expectation was among the Chelsea faithful that the Brazilian would seal a move away from the club before the start of the new season.
Yet, the 2018/19 campaign is underway, and Willian remains. He continues to fight Pedro for a starting spot on the right-hand-side of attack. The Spaniard is leading the race at the time of writing, having scored three goals already this term.
Willian’s lack of action on the pitch has disgruntled him in the past, but his spirit now appears to be sky high. The 30-year-old is quoted by the London Evening Standard explaining just how commited he is to the cause in SW6:
“A lot of people, they say a lot of things, but I never said that I wanted to leave Chelsea, never.”
“I always say that I want to stay at Chelsea as long as possible and I am happy to stay here.”
“When I arrived here my plan was to stay here as long as possible and now I am here for five years I hope to stay five more.”
If he continues to perform how he has in recent seasons for us, we will have no problem seeing Willian stay put for years to come. How realistic five more is, though, we will have to wait and see…
