Thibaut Courtois has revealed that he feels ‘sad’ the Chelsea fan base have turned their backs on him following his summer move to Real Madrid, report Sky Sports.
Perhaps he should have thought about how the Chelsea faithful would react to his selfish behaviour before he proceeded to do it.
As the BBC reported at the time, Courtois decided against returning to Chelsea’s Cobham training ground and joining up with Maurizio Sarri and the rest of the first-team squad.
Courtois was entitled to a period of time off following his involvement in the World Cup, but was due to return from holiday and get back on the training pitch. He opted against it.
Sky Sports claimed back in August that Real Madrid parted with £35M to finally secure the services of Courtois. He got the move he desired, and Chelsea received a fraction of what he is truly worth considering the inflated nature of the transfer market.

Regardless, the Courtois era at Stamford Bridge has come to a close, with Kepa Arrizabalaga set to occupy the spot between the sticks for years to come.
Courtois could have walked out the door a hero, though. He could have been thought of fondly by Chelsea fans even after his departure, like many who came before him were.
That hasn’t been the case. Some of the fan base have already turned against him. Chelsea fans on Twitter haven’t shied away from venting their frustrations with him.
Whatever problem Courtois had with Chelsea it wasn’t the fans fault yet he still carries on bad mouthing the club. He really is the perfect example of a modern day footballer. No loyalty, no integrity & most importantly.. the money comes first

Thibaut Courtois will never go down a legend in football, he will be forgotten because he’s just another Real Madrid goalkeeper.
Will he ever be up there with Cech? Schmeichel? Van Der Sar? Casillas? De Gea?
Absolutely no chance, because he’s a weak and pathetic man.

Courtois doesn’t appear to feel as though the criticism he is receiving from Chelsea fans is just. He has suggested that a lack of clarity as to what actually happened the scenes has led to such frustration.
The two-time Premier League champion is quoted by Sky Sports saying:
“It makes me feel sad and obviously they don’t know all the truth.”
“I think in March the decision was already made and I thought the club would accept it. Then because the transfer was closed I did not show up because I thought it better not to disturb the team and the squad.”
“If I did go there maybe, I didn’t want to be toxic, so obviously it is a pity because I love Chelsea.”
Claiming that you love a club after allowing your contract with them to run down, deciding against turning up for training and ultimately leaving, is rather bizarre.
Courtois is also contradicting himself in claiming that the decision to leave Chelsea was made in March. In July, the Telegraph reported that Courtois had said:
“People always complain that players don’t comply with their contracts, but maybe they do.”
“I don’t think they will keep someone with my qualities on the bench, even if I don’t sign (a new contract). But maybe (staying) is possible, because I like it in London.”
It may seem pointless to some for fans to continue to put the spotlight on a man who is now part of Chelsea’s past, but Courtois’ lies should not be entertained. He deserves to have his facade exposed.
