Antonio Conte has been singing the praises of Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen ahead of our clash with AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
Chelsea have enjoyed plenty of success since Roman Abramovich took the reins at Stamford Bridge, but there has been one major flaw throughout the Russian’s stewardship.
Not since John Terry has a Chelsea academy product successfully broken into the first-team squad and nailed down a starting role… until now.
As David Luiz struggled with form and fitness earlier this campaign, Christensen pounced and grabbed his opportunity with both hands. The Denmark international has hardly put a foot wrong this term and appears to be very much here to stay in SW6.
Conte is very impressed with the progress the 21-year-old has made this term. The Chelsea boss is quoted by the Guardian hailing how Christensen has performed in recent weeks:
“Every time I have decided to give Christensen the opportunity to play, he has given an amazing performance and convinced me he has to play regularly”
The Italian went on to reveal his surprise at Christensen’s emergence and continued to heap praise on the Dane, as the Guardian report:
“Christensen is maybe the best surprise from the start of this season: for me, the club, his team-mates, the fans. It’s not simple to see this composure, this calmness in such a young player.”
“Chelsea have found a player who can have the same career as some of the best defenders here. He has the right characteristics to play for this club for many years. I can predict a fantastic career.”
Long may his good form continue…
