Stoke City boss Mark Hughes insists Kurt Zouma will be staying for the season.

The defender is on-loan at Stoke from Chelsea.

Hughes has moved quickly to insist he has no intention of letting Zouma return to Stamford Bridge – even if Chelsea requested it.

“I don’t think it’s possible,” said Hughes. “I’m almost certain it’s not possible and I’d be aggrieved if it was. I don’t think there’s any way that they can have a call-back.

“Usually, if a player is not playing or he’s gone out on loan and he’s not had the games that he and his club expected, sometimes you can have a conversation even if nothing is in place.

“You can go through a process where maybe people think it’s better if he goes back to his parent club, but clearly that’s not the case with Kurt and if there’s nothing in place he won’t be going back.”
