AS Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has claimed that he never thought of leaving the club when Premier League side Chelsea were interested in him.
Chelsea, under manager Antonio Conte, wanted to sign the Belgian star from Roma back in 2016 but Nainggolan opted to remain with the club where he has established himself as one of the best in Serie A. There were also rumours of a move to the Blues this summer but he once again decided to stay at Roma and signed a new deal with the club.
Speaking ahead of the tie between the two sides, as reported by the Daily Star, Nainggolan said, “Well I made my choice. I never hesitated or thought for a minute (about leaving), so it doesn’t matter if it’s Chelsea or anyone else.”
“It’s always nice to play against a top team, and like all professionals I know how to prepare for them. I’m ready to give my best and hope to play well.”
The tie at Stamford Bridge produced a six goal thriller, with both sides scoring three each and Nainggolan believes that his side can win against the English champions tonight.
“We know what we are capable of and our worth. We played a great game in London, we could have won it, but we need to be aware of Chelsea too. We will be playing in front of our own fans, a big crowd, and we have everything it takes to win the game,” he concluded.
Roma host Chelsea tonight and are currently in second place in the group, two points behind their opponents and they will be looking for a win to leapfrog the Blues.
