Antonio Conte has cut a frustrated and irritant figure at the touchline as well at press conferences over the previous few weeks. Only months after winning the Premier League title with Chelsea, a disappointing start to the Blue’s season has seen pressure mounting on the manager.
Rumours have trickled in that the locker room morale is low, and that there might be a change in the management soon. With news of Chelsea possibly looking for a new manager, here are four likely candidates.
4. Leonardo Jardim
Leonardo Jardim led his wonder-team of Monaco to win the Ligue 1 title last season but saw all of his prized players leave the team this transfer season. With Kylian Mbappe, Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Bakayoko all gone Monaco has struggled to have the same impact this season.
He will be looking for an opportunity to step up in charge of a club where he will be able to retain his players and consistently challenge for the title. Chelsea may just be the perfect side for him.
3. Luis Enrique
The former Barcelona manager promised to take a year’s sabbatical following his resignation from the Barcelona side. He may be tempted to break his promise if he is approached by the likes of Chelsea.
The Blues need a manager who has the experience and credentials to take charge of a top-flight team, and Luis Enrique fits that bill perfectly.
2. Thomas Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season and has since been out of work. In his last season at Dortmund, he helped them win the DFB Pokal Cup and was rumoured to have been in talks with Bayern Munich.
That has since fallen through, however, and he may be the ideal candidate to replace Antonio Conte at Chelsea, with his experience and innovative methods.
1. Maurizio Sarri
The Napoli boss has seen some of the best moments so far this season and may be one of the best choices as coach of Chelsea. Napoli is currently at the top of the Serie A table, but they better try to hold on to their manager as best they can with the rumours of an impending offer from Chelsea.
The Blues have reportedly been in contact with the Napoli boss and if Conte leaves it may very well be Sarri who replaces him.
