Former Chelsea star Shaun Wright-Phillips has urged the youngsters to leave the West London club if they want to help their careers.

The Blues are not really known for promoting their youth players to their first team, and Wright-Phillips brings ups the examples of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Romelu Lukaku to illustrate his point.

He told 888sport: “It’s a hard one because there are not many young players at the top clubs coming through. So, if Loftus-Cheek wants to play and to play for England he needs to get games under his belt for at least two solid seasons.

Romelu Lukaku leaving Chelsea is a prime example: he went out and showed everybody that he’s up there as one of the best strikers around.

“Loftus-Cheek has to go out there and prove himself now. He’s set himself up for his story and his path in the Premier League.”
