When Chelsea and Atletico Madrid play each other in the Champions League group stages on Wednesday night, two players who could well end up on the scoresheet are Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann.

Both are their respective clubs’ main men up front – with Morata enjoying a superb start to life at Chelsea demonstrated by his six Premier League goals in six appearances, including a hat-trick against Stoke City on Saturday.

Griezmann, meanwhile, continues to score important goals for Atletico including one in Los Rojiblancos’ 2-0 win over Sevilla at the weekend – the club’s second win at their new Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

Both Morata and Griezmann, who share Atletico in their history, didn’t have such an easy time getting to this point, however, and both have been praised by Antonio Conte and Diego Simeone respectively for their work ethic.

Morata can boast of winning numerous trophies over the past three seasons while Griezmann’s individual return in front of goal has seen him become one of the most highly-rated forwards in world football.

The spotlight is therefore, unsurprisingly, likely to be on both players when Chelsea and Atletico go head-to-head in this season’s Champions League group stages, starting with a match in the Spanish capital on Wednesday.
