Conte handed Hazard just his second start of the season for the Champions League game in Madrid following the winger’s recovery from a broken ankle.
And the Belgian re-paid Conte’s faith by setting up Alvaro Morata for Chelsea’s equaliser while putting in a superb all-round performance before being brought off with eight minutes to go.
Conte praised several of his players after the 2-1 victory at the Wanda Metropolitano, but singled out Hazard for his attitude and performance in a tough game against Diego Simeone’s men.
Conte told BT Sport: “Our performance was very good so I am very pleased for my players.
“When you go 1-0 down it’s very difficult to come back but we continued to play very well in the second-half and concentrated well.
“We deserved to win.
“I think we prepared for the game very well. My players showed me great desire, will and concentration. They showed we deserved to play these types of games.

“We must be very happy because Eden Hazard’s performance was amazing and it was the first big game for him after his injury.
“His answer was fantastic and positive. He had a great link with Alvaro Morata and I am happy for Michy Batshuayi but also Willian played very well.
“Andreas Christensen played well and with great personality too.”
