Antonio Conte has suggested Eden Hazard will be afforded a first start of the season as Chelsea host Nottingham Forest in the League Cup on Wednesday.

Hazard has not started a game for the Premier League champions this term due to ankle surgery earlier in the summer, with just three substitute appearances against Leicester, Qarabag and Arsenal under his belt thus far.

With games coming thick and fast, Conte is open to Hazard starting from the off against the Championship outfit in midweek, telling reporters: “The last 20 minutes [against Arsenal], Hazard played very well.

“Now, on Wednesday, he will have the possibility to start the game against Nottingham Forest and complete his recovery. We hope that everything is okay after this game.”

One player who will be a doubt for that match is Pedro after the Spaniard damaged his ankle during the 0-0 draw with Arsenal, forcing him off at half-time.

Conte said about Pedro’s injury: “Pedro took a knock to his ankle and wasn’t 100 per cent fit. For this reason, I decided to make a substitution in the second half.

“We have to check with the doctor, but I hope this problem is not serious. We [also] lost Pedro against Arsenal in China.”
