Chelsea return to the Champions League on Tuesday after a one-season absence and could not have wished for an easier opponent.

Qarabag of Azerbaijan make their debut in the group stage, at the fourth attempt, after beating FC Copenhagen in the play-off round.

A shock defeat to Burnley a month ago has been followed by impressive wins over Tottenham, Everton and, most recently, Leicester City. Another should follow in midweek.

Team news: To be confirmed at 6.45pm.

What they said

Antonio Conte: “We played a tough game [at Leicester] and spent a lot of energy. To play seven games in 21 days is not easy. It’s normal to prepare some rotations. There is the necessity to rotate and play game-by-game.

“For me Qarabag are a good team. I know a lot of these players very well, because I played against Azerbaijan when I was Italian coach.”

Gurban Gurbanov: “We’re not scared of any of them. “They have one of the best coaches in Europe and they have some of the best players in Europe.

“Even though Chelsea is an icon in the Champions League and have a big chance to win the Champions League this season, the team is ready and we’re going to play until the end.”
