Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists he never wanted Alvaro Morata to leave.

Morata has quickly settled at Chelsea, where he is the club’s leading goalscorer in the early weeks of the new season.

“I would have liked him to have stayed,” confessed Perez.

“Madrid is his home and it would not be a problem for him to return. He is a close friend of Carvajal, Isco, Asensio, Nacho … I see all the Chelsea games and I’m happy when he scores.”

On Pepe and his move to Besiktas, Perez added: “We offered him another year and he preferred to look for other options and found it.”
