Chelsea‘s deadline day signing Davide Zappacosta has been called up to the Italy squad.

The 25-year-old will train with his Italy team-mates on Sunday ahead of Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against Israel.

Zappacosta was first called up to the Italian national team by Antonio Conte and the pair were reunited on Thursday when the Blues sealed a deal for the defender on the final day of the transfer window.

The former Torino man said upon arrival: “I trained with him for a few weeks when I played for the national team under him and from that small experience I gathered, he was a great manager who is always hungry for victory and wants to improve and progress, which is very good for the players because he can convey that philosophy to us.”

Italy will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to Spain in Saturday’s qualifier at the Bernabeu. Two goals from Isco and a third from Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata but the Azzurri on the back foot in the race to top qualifying Group G.
