Jose Mourinho has hit back at Antonio Conte over his Chelsea successor’s latest comments.

Conte aimed a dig at Mourinho, who he replaced as permanent Chelsea manager last summer, when he expressed the importance of “avoid[ing] the Mourinho season with Chelsea”.

The Blues won the Premier League title last term and will hope to retain their crown, but their last defence having won the previous season saw them finish tenth.

Mourinho was sacked in December that campaign, and has since been appointed at Manchester United.

When his rival’s comments were put to the Portuguese on Sunday, he replied with a dig as thinly veiled as Conte’s hairline.

“I don’t know, I could answer in many different ways,” Mourinho said.

“I’m not going to lose my hair to speak about Antonio Conte.”

That’ll be the same Antonio Conte who has had a hair transplant, then.
