BARCELONA AREN’T LEAVING COUTINHO ALONE
Jurgen Klopp may be very confident of rejecting all Barcelona bids for Philippe Coutinho, but that doesn’t mean that the transfer market sharks are going to stop circling around his star player.
Liverpool turned down a £72m bid from Barcelona earlier this week, but reports now say that Barca will come back with an improved offer soon. Not sure raising that up to £80m is going to persuade Liverpool to sell, to be honest.
In the Daily Mirror, Darren Lewis and Neil Moxley’s shared story says that Barcelona are not taking no for an answer, but that Klopp and owners FSG are determined not to negotiate. Take the phone off the hook and unplug the fax machine.
VERRATTI DEAL OFF BECAUSE OF MARTIAL?
Now I think that Anthony Martial is potentially a brilliant footballer, but given the options at Manchester United’s disposal you really wouldn’t let him get in the way of your chances to sign Marco Verratti, would you?
According to the Sunday Mirror’s Neil Moxley, that’s exactly what has happened. Moxley writes that United’s £60m approach for Verratti is on the rocks because Paris St Germain want to sign Martial. Ok, so go with it.
Moxley does say that dialogue continues between the two clubs to see if a Martial-less deal can be struck. Yes, we do want to see Verratti in England. Desperately.
CHELSEA VS CITY FOR OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN
Yessss. We bloody love Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s agent for his efforts in touting The Ox to the best clubs in England, despite Arsenal not seeming that bothered should he leave if they can get a good price. Sunday brings more fine work.
Firstly, there is the timely leak that Oxlade-Chamberlain’s dispute with Arsenal is nothing to do with money, but because he wants first-team minutes. Surely if that’s his issue, moving to a club with shorter odds to win the title is massively optimistic?
Anyway, the other news is that Chelsea will reportedly table an offer this week, which will also smoke out interest from Manchester City who will ‘switch their attentions from Alexis Sanchez’. Because that’s the most natural fit in the world.
