Chelsea ‘haven’t completely given up hope’ of signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton, according to club sources.
The Blues had courted Lukaku for most of the summer, but Manchester United hijacked the deal and announced on Saturday that they had agreed a fee with Everton for the player.
Lukaku has since given an interview stating his reasons behind choosing a move to Old Trafford, as well as discussing his relationship with manager Jose Mourinho.
Despite this, The Independent are reporting that senior Chelsea sources ‘are adamant that the Belgian’s first choice is Stamford Bridge,’ and they are still exploring the idea of striking a late deal.
The Independent themselves do state however that ‘it now looks locked in that he will go to United’ at this stage.
Chelsea will subsequently look to reignite their interest in Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, who has been left ‘shocked’ after United ditched their move for him.
Andrea Belotti of Torino is also a potential target for Antonio Conte, who has been left incensed by the recent events.
