Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic knows the significance of the EFL Cup to the club.

The competition was a launch pad for greater success in both 2005 and 2015 under Jose Mourinho and Begovic hopes Conte’s side can do the same.

“It is about winning trophies at a club like Chelsea and it would be great to start with the first one available to the manager,” said Begovic, who is likely to start in goal against West Ham tonight.

“It is our aim and where the club deserves to be.

“The club is serious about getting to that level. We are desperate to get back to the top and competing for the big things. Winning a trophy would breed positive confidence and that is what we aim to do.”
