Terry has been injured since the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Swansea in early September but is set to return in tonight’s EFL Cup tie against West Ham.

The veteran defender’s future in the Chelsea first-team has been called into question recently with David Luiz, Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta impressing in Conte’s new 3-4-3 formation.

But the Italian boss said: “These last three games we did very well and it’s normal when you play with the same players they take confidence in the role to play together.

“If you have an injury during the season it’s important to have ready a good solution”

“But it’s important also in these games, for example the cup, to find new solutions because if you have an injury during the season it’s important to have ready a good solution.

“For this reason tonight, we find a different solution. I want to see the players give me the good answer.”

One player expected to start at the London Stadium tonight is summer signing Michy Batshuayi.

Conte believes the Belgian ace is learning from fellow forward Diego Costa and is happy with how the 23-year-old is developing.

“When you are in a great team and have the possibility to work every day with great players and learn a lot of things, it’s positive for him.”

He added: “The confidence for Michy must be high because he’s a young player, but for me he can do great improvement because he has great quality in the technical and physical aspects. He can grow a lot.

“Michy has great potential and we trust a lot in him. He must continue to work and to exploit the moment that he plays.

“He’s working very well in these months and sometimes he plays – he started two games for us – I have full confidence in him and I’m sure that if Michy plays against West Ham, he’ll play a good game.”
