However, Romagnoli has again distanced himself from a move to West London after declaring he’s happy where he is.

Immediately after Milan’s 1-0 victory over Juventus on Saturday, he told Italian broadcaster : “I am happy at Milan and in Italy, so I hope to remain here.”

After Chelsea’s initial offer was rejected, Romagnoli said he was thrilled to stay and continue his development in his native Italy.

He told : “The fact came in for me is pleasing, but I’m glad I have stayed here.

“This pushes me on to grow even more and improve myself. I am happy to stay here. President Silvio Berlusconi made a big investment in me and that’s enormous.

“Milan are behind Juventus now, but I don’t think we are missing anything in particular. We just need to work together and grow as a unit.”
