Chelsea have stepped up their bid to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Everton and believe a deal will soon be struck between the two clubs to bring their former man back to Stamford Bridge, according to the MailOnline.
Lukaku featured for Everton in their pre-season friendly against Real Betis on Saturday, but the Belgium international has his eyes set on a move to West London.
Antonio Conte is looking to bolster his striker options, as he looks to deploy a 4-2-4 formation this forthcoming season.
The club were interested in signing Gonzalo Higuain, who recently joined Juventus for £75m, Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani, a player often linked with the Blues and Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata.
However, with the club’s failure to secure any of the three, in addition to the uncertainty surrounding Diego Costa’s future, the 2015 Premier League champions have now turned their attentions to Lukaku.
Conte also failed to persuade his former Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez to join his revolution in West London and, as a result, the Italian manager will now go all out for Lukaku.
Everton are aware of Chelsea’s interest and have slapped a £75m price tag on the player they bought for £28m from the interested party two years ago, but the Stamford Bridge hierarchy believe they can get a deal done for around £60m.
Should Lukaku re-sign for Chelsea, he will join fellow forward and Belgium team-mate Michy Batshuayi, who moved to the London club from Marseille for £33m earlier this month.
Chelsea’s other signing this summer is France midfielder N’Golo Kante, who departed Premier League champions Leicester for Conte’s side in a £30m deal.
