A club statement read: “The match, which takes place on Sunday 7 August (2pm UK time) comes three days after the United States tour concludes with an International Champions Cup game against AC Milan.”
Werder Bremen had to call off their scheduled game against Lazio due to concerns over crowd violence.
And in a statement on their official website, the were thrilled to find another illustrious opponent to take their place at the Weserstadion.
“We’re delighted to have been able to find such attractive opponents at such short notice for our official season opening,” said Bremen’s chairman Klaus Filbry.
“I would like to thank Lazio for the way they showed full understanding of our decision to call off that game.”
