A man of the match performance from Eden Hazard ensured that Chelsea took away all three points at the Bridge against East London opposition West Ham.
Maurizio Sarri must take some credit after his team selection, something Chelsea fans were dying to see, with Emerson being drafted in at left back, Ruben Loftus-Cheek getting the nod in midfield and also a start for Callum Hudson Odoi.
Chelsea broke the deadlock after a piece of individual brilliance from Eden Hazard, weaving through defenders before sending a driven shot with his left foot into the bottom corner. In the post match interview when asked about his first goal Hazard went on to describe it simply as ‘something special’. Chelsea controlled the remained of the first half very well and went into the break a goal up.
The second half saw both teams make some good chances, with West Ham having a spell where they looked dangerous however on the stroke of 90 minutes Eden Hazard produced another fine moment, as he finished in the box excellently, following a great ball from Ross Barkley.
West Ham fans were heard chanting ‘Eden Hazard, he’s off to Madrid’ on the night and the Belgian responded by saying ‘no they are wrong, now I am focused with Chelsea until the end of the season.’
Chelsea now go 3rd in the Premier League on 66 points, two point ahead of Spurs in 4th and 3 points a drift from Arsenal in 5th. A few weeks ago Chelsea looked set for Europa League football next season, relying on the current Europa League campaign as their only way to secure Champions League football, however now are in the driving seat to gain a top four spot.
Now we need to keep the momentum rolling as we face a tough set of fixtures this week including an away trip to Slavia Prague on Thursday and an away visit to Anfield on Sunday which could be crucial in determining the title race.
