After an unimpressive season by Chelsea’s standards. Conte and his team went to Wembley knowing that the final was a must win game, so to claw back some of the success which hasn’t featured domestically this season with Chelsea not qualifying for Champions League football next season.

The game started off at a high tempo, with Hazard putting his mark on the game with a series of dangerous runs and testing Da Gea early on. In the 22nd minute, Hazard got the better of Jones this time and was brought down for a definite penalty. Jones only recieved a yellow card, which many believe to be slightly controversial due to the clear scoring opportunity that Jones prevented. However, Hazard stepped up and calmly slotted the ball in the right hand corner to give Chelsea the lead.

The most impressive part of Chelsea’s performance was their defensive organisation, with player’s like Rudiger and Alonso stepping up to contain United’s barrage. They minimised opportunities for Rashford, Lukaku and Sanchez, meaning Courtois was only called into action a handful of times and was able to prevent United from bringing the score back to being level.

There was another penalty call for Chelsea, when Moses chipped the ball and it struck the arm of Young. This wasn’t given due to Young attempting to move his arm out of the way, so play continued. The game finished 1-0 and that was all she wrote. Now the FA cup champions, Chelsea will be happy to finish the season on a high, especially after their poor form in other competitions.

With Conte’s future uncertain, an interesting summer awaits for Chelsea as they look to hold onto their key players and also bring in some extra firepower to challenge the rest of the big six next season. Stay tuned for more news and let us know your thoughts on what you want to see this summer.
