Hector Bellerin admitted Arsenal were leaving Stamford Bridge disappointed despite the credible nature of their display in a 0-0 draw at Chelsea.

Though the Gunners extended a winless streak against last season’s top six dating back to January 2015, there were plenty of positives for Arsene Wenger’s side to take back to North London, particularly only three weeks after they’d been hammered 4-0 at Liverpool.

There could, however, have been even greater cause for celebration at Arsenal with a degree more fortune. Shkodran Mustafi was rightly, but marginally, flagged offside after heading past Thibaut Courtois whilst Aaron Ramsey hit the post after a stumbling run.

Arsenal marginally shaded the game in terms of expected goals and Bellerin was convinced the result could have been different had the visitors shown a greater cutting edge in front of goal.

Arsenal 0-0 Chelsea: Arsene Wenger press conference

“I’m disappointed because we had chances to win the game,” Bellerin said. “To be fair they had a few as well, but I think if we would have been efficient at the beginning of the game it would have been completely different with the chances we had.

“Obviously we know it’s a hard venue to come to and we can’t really be that disappointed with a point because it was well-fought by both teams, but the fact that we thought we could have come away with a win was disappointing.”

The 4-0 defeat at Liverpool continues to cast a shadow over Arsenal, though the draw at Stamford Bridge had Wenger convinced his side had responded in the “domains” in which they had been questioned over the past month.

A point at the home of their rivals capped off an impressive week for the Gunners, who had beat Bournemouth 3-0 on Saturday before starting their Europa League campaign with a 3-1 home win over Cologne.

“Sometimes there’s games that are not going your way and that doesn’t mean the team is not good enough,” Bellerin added. “We’ve had a few good results in the past week, we’ve got the confidence back and were ready to beat Chelsea. It wasn’t to be, but I think we have to take a lot of positives from the game.”
