Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has reiterated his desire to play in central midfield for Liverpool.

The 24-year-old completed a deadline day move to Anfield from Arsenal in a deal worth up to £40m, making his debut in a 5-0 loss to Manchester City on Saturday.

Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected a new contract with the Gunners, understood to be worth more than his wage at Liverpool, for the offer of a more regular midfield role having being utilised as a wing-back in recent months under Arsene Wenger.

“I’ve always been a central attacking midfielder,” he told Sky Sports.

“As I became a professional I got put out wide more. I like doing that as well but I want to be further forward on the pitch.

“I got the feel from coming here that I’d be playing further forward and in attacking midfielder.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking forward to working under Jurgen Klopp and joked about the feeling of receiving his first bear hug from the German.
