Danny Drinkwater could be in line to make his Chelsea debut against his former side Leicester City this weekend after he became the champions’ final and, indeed, most high-profile signing of transfer deadline day.
The midfielder was the last arrival for the Blues in the dying moments of the summer window, with the 27-year-old’s signing effectively being as a replacement for Nemanja Matic who earlier in the summer joined Manchester United.
While not having played this season due to a minor injury, Drinkwater could make Antonio Conte’s squad for Chelsea’s trip to Leicester on Saturday as the Italian coach assesses whether to try and immediately resurrect the successful partnership the England international had with N’Golo Kante at the King Power Stadium.
However, Chelsea have fierce competition for places in midfield – with Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas all set to hand Drinkwater a fight to play every week.
So what kind of impact could Drinkwater have at Chelsea? Standard Sport’s Vaishali Bhardwaj looks at the Blues’ acquisition of the midfielder in the video above…
