Vague
And so to the Daily Telegraph website…

‘After Virgil van Dijk handed in a stunning, forthright transfer request on Monday, asking that Southampton “consider the interest in me from top clubs should it still exist,” Liverpool will revive their interest in the defender.

‘That’s according to reports in the Daily Express this morning, who say Liverpool will not be deterred by the fact Southampton reported them to the Premier League earlier in the summer for their pursuit of Van Dijk.’

‘Reports in the Daily Express’? You really are going to have to narrow that down…

Brown source
The Sun Online’s
Daniel Cutts is always very keen to showcase his sources at Manchester United and on Tuesday he has an EXCLUSIVE and it is very juicy…

‘JOSE MOURINHO is set for a collision course with Manchester United chiefs over plans for a pre-season tour of China.

‘The Red Devils have sounded out playing in the money-spinning International Champions Cup next summer.’

Cutts quotes an Old Trafford source said as saying:

“The club have looked at playing in the Far East next summer as part of a tournament.

“Jose won’t be happy about this and will be speaking to the money men upstairs who arrange it all.

“United have a huge amount of supporters out there and plenty of commercial capability, but Jose wants to go to the US.”

What a scoop! Such insight! At last we know what is going on in the mind of Jose Mourinho! Well done Daniel Cutts!

Except, well, Jose Mourinho himself said this on July 19 while in the United States:

“I will try everything with my club to be back because with all the respect Asia is beautiful, commercially it’s fantastic for the clubs, but the conditions to work are completely different.

“Here is about the facilities and organisation and everything is perfect so we are going to try to persuade the club and Relevent [organisers of the International Champions Cup] to bring us back again.”

How on earth did Daniel Cutts know exactly how Mourinho felt just three weeks later?

Piece in our time
The Daily Mail’s Charles Sale is man with an agenda. A sports agenda. That sports agenda is generally aimed towards Sky Sports and Tuesday is no different:

‘IT SEEMED remarkable that Sky could announce a revamped Soccer AM without mentioning the departure of excellent presenter Helen Chamberlain, the original ladette, after 22 years. But Sky say Chamberlain, whose contract was not renewed did not want any fanfare.’

So how lovely of the Mail to respect Chamberlain’s request for a low-key departure with a story top of their football homepage on Tuesday morning, featuring 12 photographs of her in various states of undress.

Remarkable indeed.

Question of the day
‘As Jose Mourinho says he will ‘fight’ to sign Gareth Bale, is this the Welsh wizard’s final training session with Real Madrid?’ – The Sun online.

No. We are pretty sure that if Manchester United do sign Gareth Bale, it will not go through on Tuesday night. Not least because both clubs are a tad busy.

Five minutes in the mind of Ian Wright
August 7 20.15 on the BBC’s Monday Night Club: “Why would Gareth Bale stay at Real Madrid and win more Champions Leagues, when he could come to Spurs and take them to the next level?”

August 7 20.20 on the BBC’s Monday Night Club: “Why would Neymar leave Barcelona, the greatest club in the world, to go and play for a smaller club in PSG?”

And why would anybody employ Ian Wright as a football expert?

Wrighty: A brainwave
When not indulging in u-turns while being entirely unaware of his own hypocrisy, Ian Wright is busy having ideas in The Sun: ‘To be honest, as fanciful and unlikely as it may be, I’d also like to see Arsenal at least dipping their toe in the water for Diego Costa as well. For all the talk of him going back to Spain, nothing’s been done yet, so at least ask the question.’

Yes Arsenal, ask the question and he promptly told to ‘f*** off’ by Chelsea. That’ll teach ’em.

The big story
Actual headline on MailOnline: ‘Practice makes perfect for Guardiola’s men as they put the finishing touches on their Premier League preparation.’

Translation: We have some pictures of Manchester City training.

Result: Mediawatch bangs its bonce on the table.
