• Chelsea Lead Race for Real Madrid Defender After Reportedly Agreeing Terms With the Player

    News Mon 17 Jul 2017

Real Madrid right back Danilo is verging ever closer to the Bernabeu exit door after agreeing terms with Chelsea – with just the fee for the player needing to be settled on between the two clubs before he can move.

It’s been a frustrating two years in the Spanish capital for Danilo. In direct competition with Dani Carvajal, the Brazilian has failed to impress under Zinedine Zidane, and as a result, has constantly played a bit-part role with the Spanish Champions.

But now, according to Globoesporte, the 26-year-old is edging closer to a move to Chelsea. The terms between Danilo and the club have been agreed upon, and it’s now down to the Blues to match Los Blancos €30m evaluation of the defender – who they bought from Porto for €31.5m in the summer of 2015.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is believed to be a big admirer of Danilo, who can compete against Cesar Azpilicueta on the right side of the man defence that Chelsea deploy, or in the wing-back role, challenging Victor Moses.

The latest turn of events puts Chelsea ahead of Danilo’s other admirers in the race for his signature – with Manchester City and Juventus both keen on the right back.

City, who have only just completed the £50m signing of Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, would use Danilo as competition to the England international and Juventus require the former Porto player as a replacement for Dani Alves – who recently left the Bianconeri for Paris Saint-Germain.

However, despite all of this, AS claim that Zidane is still keen to keep Danilo. The French manager admires his professionalism and wants him to stick around as rotation for his squad. But the frustrated defender is reportedly dead set on a move away from the club.
