Eredivisie side PSV have announced the loan signing of Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel.
Van Ginkel, who has featured for the club during the last two seasons on loan, has been unable to assert himself as a starting midfielder at Chelsea and so has had to leave the club temporarily in order to continue his development.
PSV announced the news via their website, with a statement reading: “PSV and Chelsea have reached an agreement on a transfer of Marco van Ginkel.
“It is a loan for the duration of a season.
“PSV hope to welcome the midfielder quickly in Switzerland, where he will join then in training camp.”
With first-team duo N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic impressing last season, the chances of van Ginkel gaining game time at Stamford Bridge have diminished even further thanks to the Blues’ signing of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Van Ginkel has performed well in Holland during his loan spells with PSV, scoring 15 goals in 31 appearances and helping the club to finishes of third and first in the Eredivisie during the last two campaigns.
He also spent a season on loan at Stoke in 2015-16, making 21 appearances for the Potters, and it seems his long-term future lies away from Chelsea after making just four appearances during his time in Fulham.
Van Ginkel frequently partnered Andres Guardado and Davy Propper in midfield last season and has a Chelsea contract due to expire in 2019, having renewed terms with Antonio Conte’s last year.
