• New Chelsea Signing Tiemoue Bakayoko Hints Blues Could Hijack Man City's Deal for Benjamin Mendy

    News Sun 16 Jul 2017

Chelsea recently confirmed the signing of Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

The France international could act as Nemanja Matic’s replacement, with the former Benfica man heavily linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, but Bakayoko’s social media activity has got a lot of Chelsea fans excited.

Bakayoko is a former teammate of Monaco defender Benjamin Mendy, who is rumoured to have already completed a transfer to Manchester City, who are looking to recruit in full-back positions after signing Kyle Walker from Tottenham for £50m.

Mendy cryptically posted Sunday’s date on Twitter, leading many to believe an announcement regarding his future could be revealed imminently.

And Bakayoko has done little to calm the social media frenzy, simply letting Mendy know that he is watching as the events unfold.

Could Chelsea be about to hijack City’s deal for the 22-year-old former Le Havre left-back? If so, current Blues left wing-back Marcos Alonso could have a real battle on his hands for a first-team spot next season.

The Spaniard impressed with his ability going forward last season, scoring six goals and contributing three assists in 31 Premier League appearances, but Mendy also showed his great ability in the final third, registering five assists of his own.

Chelsea have already shown they are eager to improve the central areas of their team, signing centre-back Antonio Rudiger from Roma and following it up with the reported £40m purchase of Bakayoko.

Antonio Conte’s side had one of the best defences in the Premier League last season, with their record of 33 goals conceded bettered only by Tottenham and Manchester United.
