• Chelsea's Move for Alex Sandro Looks Dead in the Water With Player Set to Sign New Juventus Contract

    News Sun 16 Jul 2017

Chelsea target Alex Sandro is set to sign a contract extension with Juventus after the Blues saw a €70m bid for the left-back rejected.

Sky Sport Italia journalist Angelo Mangiante has claimed that there is “no more chance” of a deal being struck between the two sides after the sale of Leonardo Bonucci to AC Milan.

Chelsea’s big money approach for the 26-year-old reportedly came during negotiations over a deal to take midfielder Nemanja Matic to Turin. The Serie A champions are believed to be keen to sign the Serbia international after he was left out of the Blues’ squad for their pre-season tour.

Juventus have made clear that they have no intention of selling Sandro, and Chelsea are not expected to make any follow-up offers.

The Bianconeri are now reportedly set to present the Brazilian international with an improved new contract, worth over €4m per year.

Sandro impressed for Juventus last season as they secured their sixth successive Scudetto and reached the final of the Champions League, only to fall to a 4-1 defeat against Real Madrid at the Millennium Stadium.

Defenders Dani Alves and Bonucci have since departed, leaving Sandro as an indispensable member of Max Allegri’s squad.

The full-back joined Juventus from Porto in 2015 for €26m, and is curently under contract at the club until 2020. Last season, he made 43 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing five assists.
