• Antonio Conte's Future Remains Up in the Air After He Reportedly Stalls on Signing New Contract

    News Sun 16 Jul 2017

Antonio Conte’s contract talks have stalled, fuelling fears about his future at Chelsea.

The Chelsea boss was expected to sign a new contract after winning the Premier League, but is yet to put pen to paper.

The length of the contract has been a point of contention with Conte wanting a longer contract than what has been offered.

The Italian has also grown increasingly frustrated with Chelsea’s dealings in the transfer market, according to The Sun.

Chelsea have made a number of signings in the transfer market so far signing Antonio Rudiger, Willy Caballero and yesterday Monaco Midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko for £40m.

However, Conte missed out on his main target Romelu Lukaku to bitter rivals Manchester United. With Diego Costa no longer part of his plans he was desperate to bring Lukaku back to Chelsea in order to bolster his attack.

The 47-year-old also missed out on another one of his targets with Leonardo Bonucci opting to make the £37m switch to AC Milan instead.

And there were reports Chelsea’s final £61m bid for full-back Alex Sandro was rejected by Juve.

All of this has served to anger Conte who was heavily linked with Inter Milan before they appointed Luciano Spalletti this summer.

Conte has still been part of pre-season but is no closer to signing the new contract with the saga set to continue throughout the summer.

Chelsea will be hoping that it can be resolved before their game against Arsenal in the Community Shield.
