Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has piled the pressure on his club to seal the signing of Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
The Independent report that Simeone is frustrated at Atletico missing out on a number of their summer targets and the club are now expected to match Chelsea’s asking price of £30m for the striker.
The La Liga club were linked with Alexandre Lacazette but he chose Arsenal over sitting on the sidelines at Atleti until January with the club still under a transfer ban. They were also heavily linked with Sevilla midfielder Vitolo but he has decided to stay put, signing a new 5-year contract at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Los Rojiblancos also missed out on the Malaga forward Sandro Ramirez who chose England and Everton for his latest challenge.
After three seasons at Chelsea, Costa’s relationship with manager Antonio Conte appears to have broken down as he is yet to return for pre-season. The Blues are also not expected to take Costa on their pre-season tour of Singapore where they have fixtures against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
Costa scored 56 goals in 96 games scoring his first spell at Atletico and was part of the side that lifted the La Liga title in 2014, their first title since 1996.
In the same season, Atletico also made the Champions League Final with Costa impressing in the knockout round victories against Barcelona and Chelsea before his side were beaten 4-1 by city rivals Real Madrid in Lisbon in the Final.
Since moving to England, Costa has won the Premier League twice with Chelsea and the League Cup at Wembley in 2015.
It now appears though that Atletico will get their man after missing out on a number of players this summer.
