Inter Milan want to sign Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, according to reports in Italy.
The Serbia international has been an important part of the Blues’ side in recent years, making over 150 appearances for the club since returning from Benfica and winning two Premier League titles.
He had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United with Chelsea expected to sign Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko but both deals have slowed up in the last few weeks and Corriere dello Sport claim Inter want to hijack the Red Devils’ deal for the 28-year-old.
The report claims Inter chief Walter Sabatini is negotiating a deal with Chelsea for Matic, whose contract with the Stamford Bridge side expires at the end of 2018-19 season, with the Nerazzurri also thought to be interested in a number of other midfielders throughout Europe.
Inter are also interested in signing former Stoke man and Sevilla anchor Steven N’Zonzi and Fiorentina’s Matias Vecino but San Siro rivals AC Milan are also thought to be pursuing deals for both players.
Matic has previously said he is happy at Chelsea after displaying some of the best form of his career during the 2016-17 season, when Antonio Conte’s side won the Premier League.
He said, as quoted by the Express: “I am very happy because everything has gone well since what happened last season.
“I don’t know if this is my best form for Chelsea, but I always try to give everything for the team.
“I have been doing that since the first day that I came here, sometimes I’m better, sometimes it’s not enough but I’m very happy when the team is winning.”
