Diego Costa has no intention of turning up to Chelsea training this week as the club begins its pre-season preparation.
Costa, who has been heavily linked with a return to former club Atletico Madrid, seems to have no future under Antonio Conte at Chelsea after the Italian boss informed the striker that he was no longer wanted at the club via text.
With the 28-year-old expected to return to the Blues’ Cobham training ground on Monday, Spanish news outlet Marca report that he does not plan on ending his holiday just yet, the forward choosing to remain in Brazil for the time being.
It seems as though he is doing this in order to push through a deal between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid. According to AS, Costa has already agreed personal terms with Diego Simeone’s side and the matter is now down to the sides to agree on a fee – with Chelsea apparently turning down a £30m bid.
Though time is on his side with two more months to go before the transfer window shuts, Costa must realise that Chelsea will be in no rush to sell him either – the club are still yet to find a striker capable of replacing him.
As far as the out of favour forward is also concerned, pre-season wouldn’t really matter to him anyway, seeing as he will most likely be sat on the bench until January – when his move to Atletico could be complete.
The Spanish club’s transfer embargo disallows them from signing anyone until 2018, but their number one target in Costa is willing to wait patiently on the sidelines before they come to take him away from his current Chelsea nightmare.
