• Atletico Madrid Set to Launch Diego Costa Bid Despite Effects of Their Transfer Ban

    News Thu 6 Jul 2017

Atletico Madrid are supposedly poised to make a bid to sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa this summer – despite being under the effects of a transfer ban.

Costa is highly likely to move on from Stamford Bridge after he revealed he had been informed by text that he wasn’t in Antonio Conte’s plans for next season.

The Blues are expected to attempt to re-sign former striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton in a big money move, despite Manchester United’s purported advantage, but have had to stall on that deal to try and hurry the Costa situation.

The player apparently does want a move back to La Liga and former club Atletico, and will likely be pleased to hear his old club are to trying to facilitate a return for him.

As reported by The Guardian, they are set to table their first formal bid before the Spaniard is due to return for pre-season at Cobham next week.

Chelsea were hoping to have flogged the striker to the Chinese Super League by now, from which they would likely receive a much greater transfer fee than they would selling to Atleti – but the problem 28-year-old doesn’t want a Far East switch.

It is being reported that they are likely to receive around £40m for Costa, which is around £30m less than what they’d hoped to raise selling to a Chinese Super League club.

With Atleti’s transfer bid in effect, Costa would not actually be able to play for his new club until January, where he would finally be registered.
