• SSC Napoli Will Challenge Chelsea for TSG Hoffenheim's German U21 Defender Jeremy Toljan's Signature

    News Sun 2 Jul 2017

After playing a vital role in Germany’s U21 set-up’s European Championship triumph in Poland at the end of June, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s Jeremy Toljan is a name which has been touted for a potential move away from the Bundesliga outfit.

Germany beat Spain’s U21 equivalent 1-0 in the final, and according to German outlet Bild (via Football Italia), SSC Napoli are determined to match Chelsea’s efforts to sign the soon to be 23-year-old defender, fuelling yet more speculation of a proposed exit from the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

Toljan’s current contract at Die Kraichgauer is due to expire in June 2018, so to rule-out the risk of losing the versatile player on a free next summer, they could be influenced into flogging their number 15 in this year’s transfer window.

The Partenopei are tailing the adaptable left-back, who is also comfortable on the right-flank, or even in the centre of the defence, making him an assured all round option.

The Blues will pose as sturdy competition for the Serie A outfit to contend with  in the race for his services, however, with Antonio Conte said to be an admirer of Toljan, even more so after his exploits on an international stage.

Although the Naples-based club may be the preferred option for Toljan as Napoli made an initial bid for Hoffenheim’s man last summer, and the 4-3-3 formation which Maurizio Sarri implements at the Stadio San Paolo may also suit his qualities better.

Toljan made 20 appearances for Hoffenheim last term, notching one goal and one assist in the process, a record which will certainly improve, regardless to where he ultimately plies his trade next season.
