With the ink barely dry on his newly signed contract, new Liverpool winger Mo Salah has already raised several eyebrows on Merseyside, after a tweet from 2016 was dug up and brought to light.
The tweet was paying tribute to Salah’s former Chelsea team mate Demba Ba, who suffered a dreadful leg break whilst playing out in China.
Seems like a pretty normal, decent thing to do, doesn’t it? Look closer.
This is Demba Ba celebrating scoring the goal that ended Liverpool’s dream of a first Premier League title in the 2013/14 season. Something about Steven Gerrard slipping over too? Ring any bells? Here’s a picture to remind you.
The Liverpool fans are a passionate lot, and they have long, long, long memories, and the match haunts many to this day. Once fans twigged the source of the photo, they responded in a nice, calm fashion, requesting that Salah delete the photo.
sigh. We don’t want you at our club then.

This is the social media equivalent of a baptism of fire for the Egyptian winger, who may be shocked by the backlash he’s received for the tweet, particularly as- and this is the important bit- He was wishing a friend well after they suffered a horrific injury.
Liverpool’s pre-season fixtures will begin on July 12th, with a visit to local neighbours Tranmere Rovers, before more extensive tours of Hong Kong and Germany.Liverpool’s first match of the season will be against Marco Silva’s Watford on August 8th. Assuming they haven’t totally disowned him by then, Liverpool fans will be very keen to get their first taste of seeing Salah in a Reds shirt.
