Monaco powerhouse Tiemoue Bakayoko has arrived in London for a medical ahead of his protracted move to Chelsea.
As reported by The Sun, the French international’s signing is due to be completed within the next few days, with his unveiling as Antonio Conte’s first signing this summer said to be imminent.
Despite winning the Premier League title in his inaugural season in England, Conte is refusing to rest on his laurels and has insisted on adding more dynamism to his side.
Bakayoko was identified earlier this year as the perfect man for the role, with a series of industrious displays helping his side to a historic Ligue 1 title and a Champions League semi-final in the previous campaign.
The Frenchman’s arrival, however, has paved the way for current Chelsea star Nemanja Matic to join former Blues boss Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
The Portuguese will look to push forward a £40m move for his former charge as he looks to add steel to the base of his midfield this summer, and Chelsea will be willing to sell the accommodate the far younger Bakayoko.
United were also in the race for Bakayoko, but have admitted defeat as the dynamo has shown a preference for joining Conte’s revolution in London, where he will form a fearsome new midfield partnership with countryman N’Golo Kante.
This decision could prove a shrewd one on the 22-year-old’s part, as establishing a partnership with Kante could aide both their claims to a starting spot in what will be an outrageously stacked France squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
