• Bayern Join Glut of European Clubs in Hunt for Highly-Rated Roma Midfielder

    News Tue 27 Jun 2017

Bayern Munich have emerged as yet another contender for Leandro Paredes’ signature as interest in the Roma star hots up.

That is according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Bild), who have alleged that the reigning Bundesliga champions have entered the mouthwatering race to sign the 22-year-old.

Bayern are said to have sent a delegation of club officials to Rome to discuss potentially bringing Paredes to the Allianz Arena this summer, but with the ex-Empoli loanee attracting so much attention it is up for debate whether they will pip others to secure his signing.

With Bayern’s inclusion, Paredes has now been linked with seven European heavyweights and the battle to land the coveted midfielder should set in motion a vicious bidding war if any of the interested parties move for his services.

Paredes had been linked with a surprise move to Bayern’s fierce German rivals Borussia Dortmund on Friday, while the Argentina international was also mooted to be in the midst of negotiating a switch to Russia with Zenit St.Petersburg.

That transfer – which also included a move for team-mate Kosta Manolas to the tune of £53m for the pair – has seemingly collapsed amid interest from other clubs, and the Bundesliga duo are believed to also be battling Roma’s title rivals Juventus, Premier League champions Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to land Paredes’ signature.

Such conjecture has raised eyebrows in some quarters given that Paredes only became a first-team regular at the Stadio Olimpico last season, but his performances for I Giallorossi must have impressed scouts from the septuplet of sides if interest is so high for his abilities.

Paredes, who has been capped once by the senior Argentinian national side, moved to Roma for around £5m in July 2015 and was immediately sent out on loan to get to grips with Italian football.

Following a successful season-long loan at the Stadio Carlo Castellani during the 2015/16 campaign, he returned to Italy’s capital and made 41 appearances in all competitions last season.

If Paredes did complete a move to Bayern, he would be hard pushed to break into Carlo Ancelotti’s starting lineup with the likes of Arturo Vidal, Thiago, Joshua Kimmich and Renato Sanches already vying for the centre midfield berths in the Italian’s side.
