• Nemanja Matic Could Complete Manchester United Transfer by the End of This Week

    News Mon 26 Jun 2017

Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic is expected to link up with former manager José Mourinho at Manchester United in the very near future, with ESPN claiming that a deal could be completed by the end of this week.

The Blues have upped their campaign to bring in AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoué Bakayoko, who is seen as the successor for Matic at Stamford Bridge.

José Mourinho has been interested in signing a defensive midfielder all summer with the intention of giving star man Paul Pogba more freedom next season. Bakayoko’s teammate at Monaco Fabinho had also been linked to United, but it appears now that Matic will sign.

Although moves for Ivan Perišić and Álvaro Morata appear to have hit a stumbling block, United are confident of signing Nemanja Matic before they fly out to the United States to begin their pre-season preparations.

Matic, who worked with Mourinho at Chelsea, is believed to be very keen on the move despite his success at Chelsea this season. The 28-year-old midfielder first joined Chelsea in 2009 before being sold to SL Benfica in 2011.

Matic was then brought back to Stamford Bridge in 2014 for £21m, however, the Serbian international looks set to complete another move away from Chelsea.

Chelsea will look to pocket around £40m in the sale of Nemanja Matic, covering the cost of acquiring Bakayoko.

Although the news of Matic arrival at Old Trafford may not be the marquee signing many United fans want, it is a move that could bring the best out of Paul Pogba next season.
