Tiemoue Bakayoko has opted for a move to Chelsea rather than Manchester United due to the influence of Antonio Conte, reports claim as the Frenchman prepares to join the Stamford Bridge outfit.
After a strong season with Ligue 1 champions Monaco, Bakayoko’s stock has been on the rise and his name has been linked with various different clubs in the early stages of the summer transfer window.
The two most prominent clubs vying for his signature have been reported to be Chelsea and Manchester United, but it appears that the 22-year-old is ready to snub Jose Mourinho in favour of Antonio Conte, with French newspaper L’Equipe (via Metro) reporting that the Frenchman wanted to work under Conte after such an impressive first season in the Premier League.
Superior tactics matched with a brilliant counter-attacking prowess meant that the Italian guided Chelsea back to Premier League glory with ease last season; something that Bakayoko has obviously picked up on, and the former Italy and Juventus boss seems to have had a strong effect on the 22-year-old’s decision to join the Blues.
Imminent to sign a five year deal at Stamford Bridge, the Ligue 1 champion will follow in the footsteps of compatriot N’Golo Kante, who joined Chelsea over United last season.
The former Leicester player seemingly made the correct choice when choosing between Conte and Mourinho, and went on to lift the Premier League title in his first season with the club.
It isn’t all bad news for Red Devils fans though. With Bakayoko inbound, Conte is believed to be trying to make room for his arrival – which will apparently result in the departure of midfield powerhouse Nemanja Matic.
Conte is supposedly willing to let the Serbian link back up with former manager Mourinho in a deal reported to be worth around the £20m mark.
