Teenage wonderkid Daishawn Redan will move to west London this summer after deciding to swap Ajax for Chelsea.
The 16-year-old centre-forward had attracted interest from a number of big clubs across Europe following impressive performances with the Ajax and Dutch youth teams. However, Redan has opted for a Premier League switch to join Chelsea according to the Sun.
Redan, who has joint nationality of both the Netherlands and Suriname, has an incredible goal record with his national team’s youth sides, scoring 21 goals in 29 appearances for the U15, U16 and U17 sides combined.
The youngster has been with Ajax since the age of eight. However, Redan has taken the decision to swap Amsterdam for London. Another player who made a similar switch is Arsenal’s 18-year-old forward Donyell Malen. Malen made the transfer in 2015 when he was deemed the hottest prospect at Ajax, now being represented by footballing super agent Mino Raiola.
Chelsea have one of the most successful youth systems in the country, producing some incredible talent and dominating the youth leagues, however, Chelsea often come under fire for not allowing these young stars to progress into the first team.
Redan is expected to join the Cobham academy when he if officially confirmed as a Chelsea player next month. The Dutchman will join up with youth stars such as Ike Ugbo, Cole Dasilva and another ex-Ajax player Juan Castillo.
Chelsea fans will still be waiting on the announcement of a big first team signing, however, knowing that their often criticised youth system has become even stronger with the arrival of Daishawn Redan can only be good news as the Premier League champions look to the future.
